Split the page into three

Before the class begins, draw two lines. A vertical one about a third of the way across, and a horizontal one a couple of inches up from the bottom. That is it — the setup takes ten seconds and it does most of the work.

What goes where

• Notes — the big area on the right. This is the only part you write in during class.
• Questions — the narrow strip on the left. You fill this in after, and it is what turns the page into a quiz.
• Summary — the strip along the bottom. Two sentences, written the same day.

The order matters more than the sizes. During class you have no spare attention for organising anything, so during class you only do one thing: write in the big box.
